Common Questions

  • Solar Benefits
  • How long will it take to see benefits of solar?

While solar is a long-term investment in your farm’s future, most agricultural solar systems have a payback under 10 years. A large portion of your investment will be received back in year 1 thanks to the tax benefits and grants. Solar will provide decades of free electric for your farm.

    The Cost of Solar
  • Solar Leasing
  • What about solar leasing?

You may have heard from solar installers offering you solar lease agreements. While the numbers on these agreements look promising, it’s important to note that you won’t get the tax advantages you’d enjoy when owning a system yourself. By purchasing your solar system, you’ll be making an investment in your farm that will provide short- and long-term savings for you and even for your next generation.

The Farmer's Guide To Going Solar

Make an informed decision about solar with this free ebook that explains all you need to know about going solar.

Your privacy is our priority. None of your information will be given or sold to any person, business or entity.

Timeline for an Agricultural Solar Project

    Solar Evaluation

Your local solar consultant will set up an appointment to meet with you at your farm. You’ll talk through your goals for solar energy and have all your questions answered. The consultant will also gather information needed to create a custom quote, like how much electricity your farm uses and where a good place for the panels would be. We’ll also map out the electrical components on your farm to help us design the best system possible.

    Detailed Quote

We’ll use the information gathered in the solar evaluation to create a quote tailored to your situation. 2-3 days later, your consultant will deliver that quote, which includes an aerial image of the solar system so you can see what it will look like on your farm. It will also give a detailed breakdown of the project’s cost, available solar incentives, the project’s payback, its ROI, and a year-by-year cash flow.

    Signed Contract

Once you’ve reviewed the quote and made the decision to move forward, we’ll assign a project manager to your project. You’ll meet with him or her to discuss the project’s “nuts and bolts” and any information needed to get the construction started.

    Paperwork & Permits

In most cases, two to four months pass between the signing of your contract and the start of construction. During this time, we’ll stay busy by taking care of all of the paperwork for permits, ordering material, and finalizing the construction details. Throughout this period, you’ll be in contact with your project manager.

    Construction Begins

The project manager and the project’s foreman will make sure construction goes smoothly and does not interrupt the day-to-day operations of your farm. They’ll consistently update you on the project’s details so you know what is happening every step of the way. Construction can take a few days to several weeks depending on the size of your farm’s project and the weather conditions.

    Flip the Switch Party

Once construction and all the proper inspections are completed and permissions have been granted, we‘ll celebrate by having you flip the switch to energize your solar system. From there, you can sit back and watch the savings roll in!
