Microinverters convert DC to AC power right on the roof, which means electricity travels at a lower AC voltage. This isn't quite as efficient as moving DC power over long distances, as you would with string inverters.

For larger installations with longer wire runs, Enphase systems typically don't make financial sense. The lower AC voltage transmission becomes a significant disadvantage over longer distances, making other inverter technologies more cost-effective.
